Basic to UNIFEM's mission is a set of values. Paramount among these is a commitment not to do something for women, but to facilitate what women want and are doing for themselves.

When women are able to participate equally and intelligently in the planning and implementation of development decisions in their communities, an environment is created in which men and women can work together to end the injustices and poverty which plague our world.
